Brits (and Burberry)Yorkshire lads…much saner then the Yanks!

They don’t make ’em weak in Yorkshire. I once dated a guy from there. He was always going on, prodding, “Stop mincing about!” So it should come as no surprise that despite forecasts of Burberry’s profit dips — due to the recession — that Yorkshire lad, designer Christopher Bailey decided to throw a party in the rain. Really, drizzle, a top the roof of the Palace Hotel, where fetching lady hosts handed out free black Burberry umbrellas. A Yorkshire band, “One Night Only” with Burberry model and front man George Craig crooning despite the chilly damp mist, as the newly illuminated Burberry sign from the corporate office shone brilliantly from across the way.
As the Brits a la Burberry held up the roof with dignity, the Americans projected signs of a new unapologetic and ironic age. Rangers hockey player Sean Avery, a former Vogue intern, wore some Clark Kent glasses despite some talk that he donned them strictly for fashion purposes. Philadelphia Eagles defensive lineman Stewart Bradley bragged to some cute blondes that he worked as an intern for Elle last Spring. He admitted the position lured him strictly “for the girls.” And former fashion designer Tara Subkoff took the guerilla route and began filming guests unawares in what could be the most illuminating about face reality fashion programming yet to come! (Cannot wait to see what she’s cooking up!)
“C’mon, Susan.” Bradley said to me. “Wouldn’t you like to interview a whole team of buff guys just coming out of the shower in a locker room?” “Well, uh no.” I told him. I just kept hearing my skinny rocker boy ex, his stereo set on some vintage “Beautiful South” tune, yelling “Stop mincing about!” Of course I’m waiting for some Burberry recession proof bikinis for the beach, a better place to check eye candy from behind some cool shades. Focused (possibly perverted for some) yet less obvious, just like the English.
