Aaah nostalgia!

The invitation arrived in my inbox. Mac and Milk with performance by the National. A lot of things sprung to mind. Mac and cheese and milk. Big Macs. Mac the Knife. But this Mac is the cosmetic brand known for vibrant hues with their latest muse Sophia Lamar, out to hear this National band last night  at Milk photo studios in the West Village.

I had never heard the National so I asked a friend to cue them on YouTube. “They sound like Bauhaus.” I told my mate. “You know, Bella Lugosi’s dead.”

The National live proved much more American than on the IPod whereas Bauhaus would intimidate and swarm the stage the old London Seventies way, with gelled hair and goth looks. I personally had not been hatched in their hey day,  but I certainly heard the music via tunes kept alive  two decades plus on underground  college radio.

So, in the spirit of goth good looks and male bravado, I asked the boys in tow to pose a little, as evidenced by Max Snow and Gavin Doyle, channeling alter egos here.
