WHO? He, She who dares wear WHITE
July 1, 2013
There’s something extraordinarily subversive about white.
When we all arrived at the second annual White Party for the New Museum on the Bowery, I thought perhaps the New Museum is playing on their own title as “new.” Since we can associate “new” with pure or virginal or untouched or unseen before now, white punctuates that. White can also symbolize those “born again.” But white can also easily be blemished. A simple brush against it, can scar it forever.
Aah, therein lies the fun.
So much naughtier than black.
So much greater, the temptation.
You can’t get away with anything.
