Hot Child in the City… Fashion’s Night Out, It’s Sexy Time!

Stores all along Madison Avenue opened doors and champagne bottles to the fashion loving and curious. Sonia Rykiel offered astrology readings. But did the CFDA/Vogue open shopping night inspire folks to dig into their purses?

I didn’t see much shopping in my run through Barney’s but a mother and two tween girls did ask me at 9 pm whether Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen would show up, as they held fort in front of the Row, the Olsen’s clothing line on the fifth floor. Felt like a vigil, so I fled.

Hip kids gathered at Opening Ceremony and the Smile store/showroom. Lots of beer swilling. Shopping bags, not so much. Post shop hours, men of a certain age who probably surrounded the  original stage at CBGBs, came out in packs like wolves to see the Cult at the Rose Bar. The Cult rocked it loud. And young gals in short ruffled skirts sucked tequila round the couches.

The fashion pack of cool ones saluted jewelry designer Waris at the Jane Stret hotel. Lots of boogeying to Michael Jackson  and Prince. Lots of French platform heels, leggings, and short short dresses here. Plus more boyish types in slick jackets than the Cult following crew, who tend to wear tees, even at forty plus.

It’s all about young blood, baby, whether you’re the age of sweet meat or it’s running through your veins. Shopping may not have been ignited last night, but the libidos are in check in NYC.

Welcome to fashion week.
